Today, after work, Garrett and I did our first of what will become semi-weekly maintenance runs between our Saturday trainings.
I’ve always wondered what it would be like to run in the rain, and now I know. It’s not very fun. I wore my running shorts and a short-sleeved shirt, which are made from a synthetic material, and I was really only wet on the front of my shirt. Amazingly, my shoes stayed fairly dry inside.
The worst part was that I think people driving home from work were wondering why two fools, one wearing shorts, were out running at night in the rain. For once I was such a fool. I think that my family would find it funny that I voluntarily ran in the rain and got my face – and especially my hair – wet. They would think this because I’m the boy who spent forever doing my hair and got mad when my brother splashed in the swimming pool, and the boy who made his grandfather bring the car around to a building’s entrance instead of walking in the rain.
How times have changed!
I’m still really happy and incredulous that I’m doing this, and glad I have a running buddy. I’m also glad that my asthma has not proven to be an impediment to running yet.
