Today we ran four miles in our pace groups (actually the larger pace groups, mine included, split into two sub-groups).  We did the run-walk program using a set ratio.  Our ratio was 4:1, meaning we ran for four minutes and walked for one.  It made the running much easier compared with running three miles without stopping.  I dare say it almost made it a little boring.  I had to hold myself back next to the pace leader at several points (passing the pace leader is not encouraged).  However, I’m sure that the run/walk ratio won’t be so boring when we’re running 10 miles.

Happily, it didn’t rain today.  Unfortunately I was c-c-c-c-c-cold because I didn’t have a chance to buy a long- sleeved running shirt before today.  I warmed up once we were running, but standing around waiting to start was torturous.

After the run we went to buy water bottle holders and some more clothes.  I bought a long-sleeved shirt and another short-sleeved shirt.  We went to Sports Basement, where the prices were relatively reasonable, but everything wasn’t as cute and matching (or well-displayed) as I would like.  I know this sounds incredibly stupid, but everyone reading this knows me:  I hope that I can run as well when I’m not wearing something that isn’t a totally cute matched top and bottom like my first Nike outfit.  I’m definitely going to buy something awesome that I love for marathon day.

Also, I’m a little bummed about not making it into the next highest pace group with my friend (and not just because it’s a more challenging run/walk ratio).  We gave three of the guys in that group a ride to the run site and they’re totally fun and nice, and my group is full of duds (or at least it seems that way).  Sigh.  I’m trying to be open to liking them.  I had a really nice chat with one girl about Sonoma County, and her boyfriend is from LA too, so that was cool, but the other group still seems more fun.

Also, I’m totally over the cute guy in my pace group. Firstly because he might have a boyfriend, and secondly because he hung behind with this random girl from an Oakland pace group and only spoke Spanish to her for the whole day.  It was totally rude considering he didn’t know whether everyone else within earshot could understand Spanish.

So I guess this experience reinforces something I already knew about myself – I don’t like working toward goals in groups.

I’m still feeling really happy and incredulous that we’re doing this, or at least giving it a shot!
