Tonight we did another maintenance run. It was fine. I felt good after, but not exceptionally so. It seemed to be a little tougher going tonight, like it was harder to start running again after a minute of walking. We made an effort to run up more (read: some) hills since there will be hills on race day. Running up hills seems to work different muscle groups and something that would be very hard over an extended period of time. However, this could be because the steepest hill (running up Alamo Square) was near the end of our 40-minute run.

It was still light during a lot of tonight’s run (I slipped away from work a little early) so we took some pictures of each other “running” once we got to the Panhandle. I think those will be making an appearance on this blog and/or my donation page in the near future, so get ready for the excitement!

The most interesting (and unsettling!) tidbit I have to share tonight: a friend’s mom advised my friend that it will be very important for me to, pardon my language, grease my balls (as you can imagine, not my phrasing) on race day. Duly noted. I just hope she doesn’t suggest it if I see her between now and August 3.

Yesterday I volunteered at the AIDS Marathon office for a few hours after work. It was a good chance to feel that I was giving a little something extra back, and we ended up assembling orientation packets, which was perfect because I never received mine. Unfortunately there were no cute guys volunteering (I swear I do things for reasons other than meeting cute guys). Fortunately, they gave each volunteer a copy of this book: http://www.amazon.com/Marathon-Jeff-Galloway/dp/0964718731/ref=sr_11_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1204176344&sr=11-1

I’m excited to have it as a resource over the next few months, but at this point – running only five miles – I’m a little hesitant to dive right in and find out what awaits.
