Dear Friend, Colleague, or Family Member:

As many of you already know, 2008 is the year that I’ve finally committed to training for – and running! – a marathon (yes, a full marathon of 26.2 miles). Running a marathon has been a long-term goal of mine for several years, and I figure there is no time like the present for me to make it happen. It’s also a great opportunity to shop for cute running outfits.

I plan to run the 2008 San Francisco Marathon on August 3, 2008. I’ll run nearly 500 miles in the six-month training program put on by the National AIDS Marathon Training Program. Luckily I’ve convinced a friend to train with me. I’m very excited about this new challenge and I look forward to achieving my goal of crossing that finish line this summer.

Furthermore, I’ve committed to raising $1,800 by Friday, May 2, 2008, for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. I know that I can already count on each of you for moral support in what will be a sometimes arduous and daunting training process; however, any monetary contribution you can make to two worthy causes – fighting a terrible disease and helping me strive for a personal goal – would mean a great deal to me. Contributions are tax-deductible and will make a difference in the lives of people living with AIDS.

You can contribute through this web site , or I can mail you a Donor Form that you can send directly to the foundation. My runner number is 1305 (though I don’t think you’ll need it for donations through the web site).

With love,
Steven
